Medium to High Voltage Motors Australia and New Zealand

Medium to high voltage motors are designed for use within applications demanding high power. This is particularly common in large industries such as construction, mining, water treatment facilities, petrochemicals, and high-power applications such as wind turbines, pumps, and generators. The typical operating voltage for a medium to high voltage motor is anything above 1000 volts (V), with common voltage levels ranging from 3kv to 10kv.

While both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) motors can operate with a medium/high voltage motor, it is more commonly used in AC applications due to its ability to accommodate applications requiring varying speed and load requirements.

Unsure about whether to select a medium or high voltage electric motor for your specific application? Reach out to our team today for more information on our electric motors and how they can help you meet your application requirements.

Medium/High Voltage Motor Industries & Applications

More energy efficient and designed to deliver electrical power to various loads, a medium/high voltage electric motor is suitable for powering:

How to Select a Medium/High Voltage Electric Motor?

Curious about how to select the perfect medium or high voltage electric motor for your application needs? Here are some key aspects to consider.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Are higher-voltage motors more powerful?

Yes, medium to high voltage motors are designed to deliver more power and efficiency for a longer period. This makes them suitable for a range of heavy industrial applications. Choosing the right high-voltage motor is crucial to maximise performance.

Can you run a DC motor at a higher voltage?

While you can do so, it is advisable not to. If a higher voltage is used, the motor will have an increased power output, but it risks running hotter, which may result in potential component damage, overcurrent issues, and ultimately a reduced motor lifespan.

What happens when you overvolt a motor?

This means adding more current than the recommended amount the motor is designed for. Over time, this will damage the motor as it will lead to overheating, insulation degradation, and motor breakdown, requiring a complete motor replacement. The most common symptoms of a motor overvolt include a burnt smell, insufficient torque, and an excessive current draw.
